Blogger blogs are not very good for SEO for many reasons.That’s why most people prefer WordPress as a blogging platform for it’s SEO benefits.If you’re using blogger platform for your blog then you must do few things to optimize your blog.

Optimize Title Tags –

You can see title tags displayed on search results and on the browser title bar.Blogger title tags are not optimized for the search engines.Default Blogger Title Tag looks like Blog Name – Post Title.Best optimized title tag should be Post Name-Blog Title.
To change the Title tags in your Blogger powered blog, you will need to login into
your Blogger account and go to Layout>Edit HTML.Find the code <TITLE><DATA:BLOG.PAGETITLE/></TITLE>.Replace it with the code bellow and save template-

<title><data:blog.pageName/> - <data:blog.title/></title>

You can also manually determine what should be displayed in the place of blog title.Say you want to show a keyword in the blog title rather than your blog name you can do that by substituting <data:blog.title/> with your keywords.It is very useful if your blog title is too long.

Heading Tag-

Heading Tags (H1, H2, H3, H4, H5) are very important for SEO.Generally blogger templates use H2 tags in the title.But,to get maximum SEO benefit you need to use H1 tag in the title.

Meta Tag Description and Keywords-

Search engines show random texts from your page to display in the search results.You may want to show keyword optimized part of your text in the page description.That’s where comes Meta Description Tags.<META CONTENT=’YOUR description’ NAME=’description’/> .Place this anywhere between the <HEAD> and</HEAD> .

Meta Keywords are not that useful anymore,since search engines are not giving much value to meta Keywords.But if you really wants to tell the search engines to look for the keywords you are targeting in your blog then use it..<META CONTENT=’YOUR keywords’ NAME=’keywords’/> Place this anywhere between the <HEAD> and</HEAD> .Limit the numbers to around 20.Excessive use of keywords can tag you as spammers in the eyes of the search engines

Using the above code has a limitation that they will show in all the posts.But,using same description and keywords in all the posts is not good for SEO.So,you need to restrict these Meat tags to the homepage only.For that use the code bellow-

Breadcrumb Navigation -

Breadcrumbs helps to navigate easily within your blog.It has great SEO value.It shows bellow the header navigation tabs.

Related Posts-

Related posts is good for SEO.You must use it in your blog.It’s also good for the users since it helps them find other similar posts and also generates more page views for your blog.More page views means more revenue.Blogger pluggins has a very simple hack for related posts.

Pinging-

Once your blog is ready and you have made few posts,it’s time to submit your blog to the search engines.Since blogger does not support file uploading you can not use a Sitemap generated by the sitemap generators.Instead you’ll have to use RSS or Atom XML URL to the search engines.Your feed XML URL will look like http://your-blog.blogspot.com/rss.xml or http://your-blog.blogspot.com/atom.xml .Now when ever you publish a post and ping them these search engine will visit your blog and add your post to their search results.
